Who is
Arvin?
Arvin
today
My name is Arvin Khoshnood.
I am a 23 year old monarchist guy born year 1984 in the incredibly beautiful
city of Tehran, located in the wonderful country Iran. Today, I live in Malmö where I’m also active in politics, both Swedish and
Iranian politics. Concerning the Iranian politics, I’m member in the Iranian
organisation, ”Rastakhiz Iran – The Imperial Iranian Guards”,
which its goal is to return the monarchy back to Iran and transform Iran into a democracy. I’m the chairman for the organisation's
youth group. I am also a member of the monarchic organisation, “United
Monarchists” (in Swedish “Förenade Monarkister”) in order to preserve the monarchy and to
re-introduce the monarchy to countries which have lost it. I believe that the
monarchy is the best form of government that we have today. I am also a
member of the “Swedish peace and arbitration society”, which is an
organisation working for peace and disarmament. I am also active in student
issues, and so I’m a member of the “Students’ Union of Social Science”
delegate at Lund’s University (in Swedish “Lunds Samhällsvetarkår). Several years ago I also started an
Iranian youth organisation with the name” Young Iranian Patriots”, or in
Persian” javanan-e iranparast”,
with some friends. This organisation later became a part of the organisation Rastakhiz Iran and it also became its youth
group. Year 2006 I and my friends took initative
for the “Lion and the sun protest” which wanted to show the world that the
real Iranian flag is the lion and the sun flag, and nothing else. I and my
friends did also found the organisation “Association for Democracy in Iran” during the spring 2007.
From the text above you probably realise that
I’m very much interested in politics. The thing is that I actually love the
politics, not for the policy in itself, but because I know that I through
politics can change, at least a little. Today I study Pol.mag.
(Politices magister) at Lund’s University with political
science as major, with concentration on international politics. I have
written my second term paper, which is about how the UN Security Council can
be reformed into a better peacemaking organisation in the future, with a
starting point in the Darfur conflict.I
wrote my bachelor thesis about why the West created the Islamic Revolution
1979 in order to overthrow the Iranian monarchy and weaken Iran. I succeeded to receive the highest
university degree (VG) on this paper. My goal when it comes to my studies is
to hopefully receive my PhD in political science and also to receive a master
degree in Human Geography with geopolitics as the main subject. Furthermore I
want to specialise in the Middle East policy, sow I’m thinking about
studying at least one semester term in an Arabic country and in order to
learn to learn the Arabic language as well as the culture.
Arvin’s
interests
As said before I love politics, but politics
is not the only thing I spend my time on. I have of course other interests as
well. I like reading a lot, especially political diaries and biographies. I
believe that one can learn a lot about politics and the world if they would
read biographies or diaries, which are written by important politicians. I
also like to read reality based novels as well. A novel that is not reality
based or is not ideological is boring, I think.
Most books I have read are about politics in
fact. I have read books written by the Iranian Shah – His Imperial Majesty
Mohammad Reza Pahlavi – and books, written by
politicians such as Jimmy Carter and James Callaghan. I have read tons of diaries written by
different ambassadors. However, all of these ambassadors have had some kind
of connection to Iran. They have either been ambassador
for Iran or worked for other countries in Iran. I have also read many books
about the Iranian revolution, which took place year 1978-1979, and destroyed Iran.
Apart from the politics and the reading I’m
also very interested in poetry. I have two favourites and both of them do
actually come from Iran as well. The first one is Ferdosi, who has in pure poetic Persian written Iran's history from the first people
to the Sasani dynasty, in the well-known ”Shahnameh” (The King
letter). Ferdosi lived approximately 1000 years ago
and many do consider that the history he has written is true, while other
consider it’s not true. Personally, I don’t think it’s of any importance if
the poems he has written are true or not, but there is something else that
inspires me a lot when it comes to his poems. In the poems, Ferdosi writes how the Iranians one after another,
defeated their oppressors and tyrants and took the control over their lives
and country. This part of Ferdosi’s poems inspires
and provides me with a lot of hope in my struggle against the mullah’s terror
regime in Iran.
The other poet who interests me a lot is the
well-known Omar Khayyam. Khayyam
was a philosopher, astronaut and mathematician who lived more than 900 years
ago in Iran. In his poems, he questions
religion and god. Personally, I do respect all religions and faiths, but I
also think that questioning other opinions is also very important. We develop, get a synthesis, only and only when a thesis is
questioned by an antithesis. To dare to set questions is very important for
the sake of democracy and democratisation. In the same way, it is also
important to listen and to reply to the questions in a peaceful way. Khayyam’s poems are translated to many different
languages, including English and Swedish.
Arvin’s
family
When it comes to my family I can tell that I,
apart from my parents, have three brothers, one uncle (from my mother’s side)
and one grandfather (my mother’s father). Yes, that’s about it actually,
which I know is something very unusual. Us Iranians
usually have large families, but I don’t unfortunately. Anyways, my father
received his PhD from Tehran’s Univeristy,
where he later also worked as an associate professor in political science. My
mother was an economist, with main focus in business administration. Both of
them studied in Iran.
In the the 80’s my
father had to leave Iran for Norway because of his political
problems. Some years later, my mother,my
elder brother and I got reunited with my father. I don’t remember a lot about
the time when my father had to leave us, but I do remember how bad I felt
about that I didn’t have a father beside me, especially during a time when
everyone else had it. But the worst thing ever was that I thought my father
was in prison and would soon be executed, especially when you constantly
heard how supporters of the Shah were constantly being executed, imprisoned
and persecuted. I thought my mother lied to me when she told me that my
father was OK, in order to calm me down. I remember that every time I talked
with my father in Norway I told him that he should escape
from the prison and run away from there. My father always told me that he
wasn’t in prison, but I didn’t believe him. I always said to him, with my bad
baby language, that “bakh-bakhii shodima” and was referring to the correct Persian saying,
“badbakhtii shodima”,
which in English means, if one translates it freely, “what a miserable life
we have”.
However, my two little brothers were born in Norway some year after. In August 1999
we moved from Malmö, Sweden, and I started the school there.
It was quite a difficult time for me in school, especially during the first
years because my Swedish was very bad, but I did well in school after all and
got accepted to a very good high school. In high school I studied Natural
Science, even thought I disliked math, chemistry, physics and biology a lot.
But I chose to study Natural Science anyway because I wanted to learn
something else than just politics. I thought I could learn more about
politics at home from my parents and also by reading by myself.
